Male Breast Reduction, also known as Gynecomastia Surgery, is a procedure that many men of adolescent and adult age have sought after. Male breast reduction is designed to reduce enlarged breasts due to weight, steroid use, certain medications, hormonal changes, or genetics.  The results may allow for relief to engage various physical activities, comfortable apparel, and intimacy that may otherwise have been avoided. So, the gynecomastia procedure may be a great solution for an enhancement in life when traditional options for weight loss fail.

You will be comfortably relaxed for the procedure with the use of intravenous sedation and local anesthesia or general anesthesia, depending upon the option that you and your plastic surgeon select. During the male breast reduction procedure, your plastic surgeon will make very small incisions to remove excess localized fat (with liposuction perhaps), reposition glandular tissue and may improve the size and location of the areola/nipple. He or she will trim excess skin to enhance your chest contours. A small drain may be placed temporarily to allow for excess blood drainage.  Then, bandages and dressings to be applied to your chest to minimize swelling until swelling subsides in a few days.

It’s important to have reasonable expectations for the breast reduction procedure. Qualifications for the procedure may include: normal weight, exercise routine and the understanding that the results may change over time with weight gain or conditions out of the control of the plastic surgeon. The results are immediate and permanent for the vast majority. Scars often fall in the natural contours of the breasts and fade over time. Many men who have had the procedure experience a positive outlook about the procedure before and after, with rewards for many years to come.
