Breast Lift

Breast Lift has more recently become popular because techniques have been enhanced to improve breast contours and firmness, while treating breast sagginess, breast asymmetry, and misshapen breasts. There are three primary techniques that may be used in the breast lift procedure, all with the goal to reposition breast tissue through the least invasive approach and minimal incision possible.

Breast Lift Techniques

The appropriate breast lift technique for you depends upon a variety of factors, including: your degree of breast sagging, breast size and shape, location and appearance of the nipples, degree of skin quality and extent of breast firmness. To access the treatment area, your plastic surgeon may make an incision through one of the following ways:

  • Around the areola.
  • Around the areola and vertically down from the areola to the breast crease.
  • Vertically from the nipple to the breast crease and horizontally along the breast crease.
  • A variation thereof.

The Breast Lift Procedure

Initially, you will have general anesthesia administered. So, you will be peacefully asleep during the procedure. Then, your plastic surgeon will create the incision to lift and reposition your breast tissue with the use of layered sutures deep within the breast tissue. Then, he or she may reposition or trim excess skin round the aerola to bring balance to your refined breasts.

Your plastic surgeon will then use sutures, skin adhesives and/or surgical tape to close the incision. In some cases, a breast augmentation or breast reduction procedure may be performed simultaneously when necessary. Women interested in breast augmentation and the breast lift in order to ensure the added weight of breast implants will not create sagging, may choose to have the breast lift performed a few months after breast augmentation at a time when the breasts have settled.

The results of the breast lift are evident following the procedure and offer a renewed sense of more youthfulness and well being for the majority of women.

Breast Lift Recovery
Breast lift recovery requires that you follow very specific directions from your plastic surgeon to enhance the healing process and maximize results. Typically, you will rest for two days before resuming most normal activities. You will also visit your plastic surgeon again in the days after the procedure to check on your progress.  You will have scarring following the procedure which fades over time with proper healing. The extent of scarring depends, in part, on the technique used in the procedure. Some women are more prone to excessive scarring and this is a consideration you will want to discuss with your plastic surgeon. On rare occasions, a complication may result which may be managed by your plastic surgeon with prompt attention.

Overall, women are fully satisfied with the results of the breast lift and may more fully enjoy the results of the procedure once scars fade in time. Typically, the beauty and comfort in the results of the breast lift last for many years.
