Your musculoskeletal system is designed to allow you to master sequences of events in continued, uninterrupted movements whenever you wish. In short, joints and related faculties are meant to spontaneously direct you through a joint connection from point A to point B. Perhaps, this is why Orthopaedics was coined from the Greek words “orthos,” meaning straight and “paideion,” meaning a child who thrives on spontaneity.

Selecting an Orthopedic Doctor

There are different types of physicians that you may approach for initial musculoskeletal treatment. For initial personal injury emergency treatment, you should not move and direct someone to call 911 Emergency.

All orthopedic surgeons are trained in all musculoskeletal areas and may be trained in other areas as well.  Each doctor has a unique skill set and may have a special focus in their practice. Some orthopedic surgeons may focus on emergency trauma. Some specialists may focus on joint reconstruction. Others may focus on more specific areas, such as, spine surgery or hand surgery. Some orthopedic surgeons use the traditional approach to surgery. Others use some of the non-surgical and less invasive techniques for those who qualify. On certain occasions, Orthopedic Surgeons work with Physical Therapists, Rehabilitation Specialists, Neurosurgeons and possibly other specialists to develop the most comprehensive treatment plan.

Understanding Medical Insurance

Medical insurance may be a factor in selecting the type of treatment and the treatment provider you are interested in. In emergency situations, you will be ambulanced to the nearest Trauma I or Trauma II facility.

If your condition is not emergent, you may elect to go to an urgent care facility or your Internal medicine doctor. If you have already been initially treated but are not experiencing results from treatment, then it might be wise to consult with an orthopedic surgeon- particularly after 5 to 6 weeks. You can contact their office, explain your condition and meet with an orthopedic specialist in consult.

If you are concerned about your insurance, it’s always best to prioritize your health, seek out treatment, and submit bills to your insurance thereafter. You always have the right to appeal insurance decisions if you are not covered for seeing an orthopedic surgeon.    In the end, you may bear some out of pocket costs, but the price of poor health may be far worse than the alternative.

The good news is that there are a select number of highly sophisticated orthopedic surgeons who are available and ready to renew your core system for a significant enhancement in your quality of life.
