Meet Nick H. Gabriel, D.O., FACOS

Distinguished Bariatric Surgeon  Dr. Nick H. Gabriel has been featured most notably on the Discovery Health Network and CNN for his distinct ability to pioneer and perform cutting edge procedures in weight loss surgery, laparoscopic surgery and robotic surgery. He is dedicated to developing and employing techniques that help patients achieve the best possible outcome while trying to minimize scars when possible, decrease down time and improve the quality of patient care.  Dr. Gabriel is former Director of Bariatric Surgery and is now Co-Director of Minimally Invasive Surgery, and Co-Director of the DaVinci Robotic Program at St. Catherine of Siena. He also educates future surgeons in his appointment as Assistant Professor of Surgery at New York College of Osteopathic Medicine.

Hauppauge’s Dr. Nick Gabriel specializes in gastric bypass, lap band surgery, laparosopic surgery and robotic surgery. He was the first surgeon to perform the Single Incision Laparoscopic Surgery (SILS ™) procedure in Suffolk County and one of the first bariatric surgeons to perform the lap band procedure in Brooklyn and Long Island making him a leader in his specialties. He is highly skilled in minimally invasive abdominal surgery as well, including gall bladder, appendix, colon and intestinal resections, hernia repair and solid organ surgery for spleen, adrenal and kidney, which adds to his extensive expertise in bariatric surgery. Dr. Gabriel also utilizes a gastric pacemaker or Enterra Therapy for patients with gastroparesis, a condition in which a person’s stomach muscles cannot properly break down food for absorption in the bloodstream. 

Dr. Gabriel completed his Doctor of Osteopathic Medicine at the New York College of Osteopathic Medicine. Following graduation, he went on to finish his general surgery residency at Wyckoff Heights Medical Center, affiliated with the Weill Medical College of Cornell University and a then fellowship in laparoscopic surgery at Yale University School of Medicine. Since then, Dr. Gabriel has become a prominent author, educator and weight loss surgeon.
