James H. Wells, M.D., F.A.C.S., is a recent director of the American Board of Plastic Surgery after past titles as president of the California Society of Plastic Surgeons and the American Society of Plastic Surgeons. Dr. Wells is a partner in Wells & Hurvitz, a private plastic surgery practice focusing on cosmetic and reconstructive procedures.  He is on the Board of Directors of the nearby Long Beach Memorial Medical Center, where he is also director of resident rotations. At the University of California, Irvine, Dr. Wells is a clinical professor of plastic surgery. As for his educational accomplishments, Dr. Wells earned his medical degree from the University of Texas Medical Branch in Galveston. After completion of his general surgery training at Ochsner Foundation Hospital in New Orleans, and training in plastic surgery at the University of Virginia in Charlottesville, Dr. Wells was a member of the plastic surgery faculty at Johns Hopkins Hospital in Baltimore. Dr. Wells is a Vietnam War veteran, having served as a Navy medical officer on the USS Midway.
