Liposuction

Liposuction may seem like plastic surgeons can wave a magic wand over people to transform bodies. Body lift and other body contouring procedures may involve liposuction. Yes, a slimmed down appearance, shapely buttocks, and enhanced breasts are very appealing to many.  Interestingly, people who have had liposuction to permanently remove fat that was resistant to exercise and diet often remark that liposuction enhances self esteem, intimacy, social activities, and professional life. Of course, the goal of liposuction is to permanently remove targeted fat cells in the abdomen, back, hips, buttocks, thighs, arms, and select areas of the face and neck. Liposuction may also be performed during a fat transfer procedure, such as, for shapely buttocks, or in breast reduction. In fact, recovery time is usually not a factor and the risks are low in the right hands of a board certified plastic surgeon.

The idea behind liposuction is to surgically remove fat through body contouring. This may be referred to as lipoplasty, suction-assisted lipectomy, ultrasound-assisted liposuction or lipoplasty, laser-assisted liposuction or laser assisted lipoplasty and power-assisted liposuction or power assisted lipoplasty. There are numerous types of classifications for liposuction. Every plastic surgeon may have a preference for one type of liposuction or another. Each individual may have a need for one or another. By the same token, the tried and true technologies work for most everyone, including:

Traditional Lipo involves the insertion of a small cannula (a long, thin tube) under the skin so that the cannula it may be moved around to break up the fat layer. The cannula is capable of suctioning up the destroyed fat cells.

Tumescent Liposuction involves the injection of much more fluid than used in other techniques to provide greater aid for fat removal. The cannula is used to suction the disrupted fat cells.

Super Wet Technique involves the injection of fluid in an equal amount to that of the fat to be removed.

Ultrasonic Lipo involves the use of an ultrasonic cannula, capable of emitting ultrasonic waves to help break the fat.

Body Jet Lipo involves the placement of a tiny water pulsating jet that loosens fat cells from connective tissue. Simultaneously, the injection to break up fat cells is performed and suctioned through the cannula.

Laser Assisted Lipo, also known as, Smartlipo or Smart Lipo Triplex is a minimally invasive choice  for the arms, body and neck. The technology targets and removes fat cells, like liposuction.  Yet, unlike traditional more invasive approaches, this less invasive approach also tightens surrounding skin. Since Smartlipo is minimally invasive, minimal bleeding and bruising may occur. The recovery period is shorter. Smartlipo Triplex offers fat reduction and up to 20% tightening of the skin for all areas of the face and body, with the exception of the ankles. This is because this laser machine has three fibers that are long/medium and short with three different wavelengths to choose from when compared to two wavelengths for Smart Lipo.

Coolsculpting is a more recent non-invasive approach that is safe and speedy for those who qualify. There is no recovery period. Coolsculpting targets fat cells under your skin, freezing away your fat for those who qualify. Coolsculpting targets your  problem areas without using knives and needles.
